Liberman plays his card: Former senior officer joins Yisrael Beiteinu

Brig. Gen. (res.) Danny Shachar, former director-general of the Tourism Ministry and a senior IDF commander, joins Yisrael Beiteinu and expresses support for Avigdor Liberman. Shachar explained his decision by citing the need for experienced, determined, and courageous leadership, while addressing the handling of the coronavirus crisis and the Iron Swords war.

Yisrael Beiteinu chairman Avigdor Liberman announced the addition of Brig. Gen. (res.) Danny Shachar to the party's ranks. Shachar, who previously served as director-general of the Tourism Ministry and as a senior IDF commander, expressed support for Liberman, stating that the State of Israel needs leadership with experience, determination, and courage. In his announcement, Shachar described his handling of two significant crisis periods in his previous role: the recovery from the coronavirus crisis and the Iron Swords war and its consequences, alongside intensive reserve duty. With the outbreak of the war, he led the government response to absorbing residents of the north and south who were evacuated from their homes, including managing the hotel accommodation system. Shachar emphasized that he saw firsthand the importance of a functioning state providing real-time responses to its citizens, and this is why he supports Liberman, whom he described as a strong and experienced leader with a clear security vision.
