Maj. Gen. (Res.) Uzi Dayan, former head of the IDF Central Command, Deputy Chief of Staff, and head of the National Security Council (NSC), has officially announced his candidacy in the upcoming Likud primaries. Dayan brings with him extensive military and security experience, and is emerging as the most senior security figure and in fact the only general who will run on the Likud list for the Knesset. Alongside his security background, Dayan is known as a man of social and educational action. He is the founder and president of the 'Sderot Conference for Society', which promotes social resilience and reducing gaps in Israel, and serves as chairman of 'Sayerot Circles', a youth organization that shapes the next generation on values of leadership and knowledge of the land. With his entry into the election race, Dayan declares that he is raising two central flags: the flag of security and the social-educational flag. In his statement, he said: 'The resilience of the State of Israel rests on security and on quality value-based education for future generations. I am running to harness the command, strategic, and social experience I have accumulated to strengthen Israel's security and its social-educational future.'
