‘Lax Conduct’: Guy Peleg Slams Supreme Court President Yitzhak Amit
Channel 12 commentator Guy Peleg criticized Supreme Court President Yitzhak Amit and the court administration for failing to respond to attacks on Judge Oren Silberman, who ruled in Peleg's favor in a libel suit filed by MK Simcha Rothman. Peleg wrote that he is disappointed by the lax conduct and feared Amit is deterred. The criticism comes after Silberman dismissed Rothman's lawsuit against Peleg and Channel 12.
Channel 12 commentator Guy Peleg sharply criticized Supreme Court President Yitzhak Amit and the court administration, claiming they did not respond forcefully to attacks on Judge Oren Silberman, who ruled in his favor in a libel suit filed by MK Simcha Rothman. In a post on his X account, Peleg wrote that he is disappointed by the lax conduct of Amit and the court administration, who did not respond to the attacks on the judge. He added that Amit may be deterred, and that attacks on a district court judge are less alarming to the system than on a Supreme Court justice. The criticism comes a week after Silberman dismissed Rothman's lawsuit, which sought about one million shekels over a 2023 report attributing to him remarks about the blood of the victims in Huwara. The ruling found that the defendants proved the defense of 'truth in publication,' based on testimonies from female lawyers at the Ministry of Justice. Rothman and his supporters criticized the ruling, and Peleg argues that the court administration's avoidance of an official response constitutes a lack of backing for judges.
