Lawyer arrested on suspicion of trying to smuggle drugs to inmate during prison visit

A lawyer was arrested yesterday (Tuesday) on suspicion of attempting to smuggle a substance suspected to be drugs to an inmate during a visit to the prison. The arrest was carried out by officers from the Sdot station in the Central District, following operational activity conducted in cooperation with the Israel Prison Service. According to the suspicion, the lawyer arrived for a meeting with an inmate she represents, and during the visit attempted to hand him a substance suspected to be drugs. The substance was seized at the scene and transferred for further examination as part of the investigation. The investigation is being conducted jointly by the Investigation Division of the Israel Prison Service and the Sdot station. At the end of the investigation, the suspect was arrested, and this morning the police are expected to request the court to extend her detention in accordance with the needs of the investigation.
