A middle school teacher in Kentucky, Sadie M. Flores, 25, of Mayfield, was arrested on suspicion of engaging in an inappropriate and prohibited relationship with a minor student. The arrest occurred last Friday, following a complaint filed with the sheriff's office by the school district administration. The student's parents, a 14-year-old boy, discovered late-night messages and FaceTime calls. Investigators allege the messages were not related to academics, and that Flores expressed feelings of love and admiration toward the boy that go beyond a teacher-student relationship. It is also alleged that the two met secretly outside of school before a school event. Flores is the first person charged under a new anti-grooming law that took effect in Kentucky on July 15, which allows intervention before a physical sex offense occurs. She faces a Class D felony charge, with a prison sentence of 1 to 5 years and fines of $1,000 to $10,000. The school superintendent, Matt Madding, stated that student safety is a top priority. The allegations have not yet been proven in court.
