The lawsuit alleges that the company advertised its products without warning customers about the risk of developing ovarian and uterine cancer. The state is seeking fines and compensation from L'Oréal, as well as a court order to stop selling products without a cancer risk warning. Over 12,000 similar lawsuits have been filed against L'Oréal by women and their families. All cases have been consolidated in federal court in Chicago. A representative of L'Oréal USA stated that the company is confident in the safety of its products and considers the plaintiffs' claims unfounded. The products in question include brands such as Dark and Lovely, Optimum, and others. The first lawsuits emerged after a 2022 study by the US National Institutes of Health, which found that women who used such products several times a year had more than twice the risk of uterine cancer. Revlon and other manufacturers are also named in the lawsuits.
