Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana boasts to Likud members: "The Knesset is violating a High Court ruling"
Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana boasted to Likud activists about the Knesset's refusal to hold new elections for the State Comptroller, contrary to the High Court's ruling. He called this a "red line" and said the Knesset "has spoken." The High Court ruled about a month and a half ago for new elections due to a flaw in the secrecy of the vote. The Knesset has not yet held a new vote.
Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana boasted in a conversation with Likud activists ahead of the primaries about the Knesset's refusal to hold new elections for the position of State Comptroller, thereby failing to fulfill the Supreme Court's demand. The remarks were published today (Wednesday) on the "Boker Ze" program on Kan News. Ohana described the move as an "achievement": "We managed to set a red line for the High Court," and said the Knesset "has spoken" and will not hold further elections. He added that no Knesset had dared "to defy the word of the supreme ruler." About a month and a half ago, the High Court ruled that new elections must be held, due to a "substantial flaw in the secrecy of the vote," after Likud MKs documented their votes on video. The Knesset has not yet held a new vote. From Ohana's office, it was stated: "It is not clear to us what is new in the Knesset Speaker's consistent position that the Knesset will not accept its trampling with submission."
