Kitbag of officer killed in Gaza reaches relatives after nearly 3 years: 'A message from the afterlife'
The kitbag of Captain Eitan Fish, who was killed in Gaza nearly three years ago, was returned to his family in Peduel in an unexpected way. Father David recounted the moving moment of opening the bag, which contained items from his military training.
Nearly three years after Captain Eitan Fish (23) from the community of Peduel was killed in battle in Shuja'iyya during the war in the Gaza Strip, his family received his kitbag last night (Sunday), which arrived in an unexpected way. Father David Fish said that his son, who lived in the community, called and asked to come to the house with the bag of belongings. The apartment owners where the kitbag was found had been in the United States in recent years, and when they returned to Israel, they initially thought it was an item belonging to the tenant whose surname was Fisher. After realizing the name on the kitbag was Eitan, they contacted the family. The father described the moment of opening the kitbag as a 'whirlwind of emotions' and noted that it contained a vest, a charger, a sewing kit, gloves, a radio tube, a notebook, and other items from the training. Since his fall, the family has received several messages, including gloves with his name stamped on them and a souvenir from his guitar-playing days. Captain Fish was killed on December 4, 2023, alongside two of his comrades from Battalion 53 of the 'Barak' (188) formation: Sergeant Yakir Yedidya Shenkolsky (21) and Sergeant First Class Tuval Yaakov Tsanani (20) from Kiryat Gat, by an anti-tank missile.
