Khalaf: Success of legislative elections requires national consensus to protect the democratic process

Mahmoud Khalaf, a member of the Central Committee of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, said that the success of the legislative elections scheduled for November 2026 requires national consensus to ensure the participation of various forces. He added that the elections represent an opportunity to end the Palestinian division and consolidate national unity, calling for a serious national dialogue.

Mahmoud Khalaf, a member of the Central Committee of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, said that the success of the legislative elections scheduled for November 2026 requires national consensus to protect the democratic process and ensure the participation of various forces. Khalaf added, in a statement to the newspaper "Palestine," that the elections represent an important opportunity to end the Palestinian division and consolidate national unity, calling for the provision of appropriate political conditions for their success through a serious and responsible national dialogue. He announced that the Democratic Front supports the formation of the broadest coalition of democratic forces and figures, based on consensus on a minimum political and service program. He pointed out that dialogue with various forces and factions is ongoing to reach a consensus formula. This position comes amid ongoing Palestinian activity to reorganize the internal house, coinciding with meetings held by Hamas in Cairo. President Mahmoud Abbas had issued a decree last July setting November 28, 2026, as the date for the elections.
