Defense Minister Israel Katz visited Lebanon yesterday (Wednesday) and declared that the IDF will remain in security zones in Lebanon, Syria, and Gaza, and ordered the military to prepare for a long-term stay. He said, "The IDF is here to stay" and instructed to take all necessary measures. In response, a US State Department official clarified that Washington expects all parties to act within the framework they agreed upon, and that Israel has made clear it has no territorial ambitions in Lebanon. The official added that a permanent military presence in southern Lebanon is not consistent with the commitments set in the framework, and that the US supports Lebanon's territorial integrity and sovereignty. Katz described the Beaufort Ridge and the destroyed tunnels, and said that the IDF has defeated Hezbollah. He emphasized the lesson of October 7 and the need to protect northern communities. He was accompanied by the Deputy Chief of Staff and other commanders.
