Minister Haim Katz and MK David Bitan conveyed to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a message that they oppose the possibility of holding electronic voting in the Likud party primaries. The two also expressed strong opposition in the party's election committee that convened to discuss the issue. Each of them explained their opposition for their own reasons. Netanyahu is considering digital voting mainly due to concerns over a security escalation, but also to save millions of shekels for the party and curb the power of pressure groups operating at physical polling stations. The main driver of the idea is the acting director general of Likud, David Sharan. At this stage, Netanyahu is only considering the option in the event of a complex security scenario, but those around him estimate that it may happen even without it.
