Israeli flags placed in Ruwabi Square in Binyamin several months ago were vandalized yesterday (Saturday), allegedly by Palestinians who sprayed paint on them. The flags were placed by the Binyamin Council together with volunteers and in cooperation with the Im Tirtzu movement, as part of what was defined as "an act of Israeli presence and sovereignty in the area." The council links the incident to the atmosphere surrounding the events in Qusra and the public discourse on Jewish violence in Judea and Samaria, claiming that the focus on these events gives a "tailwind" to hostile elements. Meanwhile, additional security incidents were recorded on Saturday: a bullet was found near a synagogue in Pesagot, a shepherd was attacked near the Alon Road, dozens of masked Palestinians blocked roads, and in Metzudat David farm, a flag was placed with an object suspected to be an explosive device. Head of the Binyamin Council and chairman of the Yesha Council, Israel Gantz, attacked the public discourse and said it "could lead to a serious security escalation," and demanded a harsh response from the IDF. He warned: "It starts with the desecration of state symbols and could end with attacks." The council is working with the IDF to restore the flags.
