Unknown vandals desecrated the grave of IDF Staff Sergeant Nir Hoffman at a cemetery in Moshav Aviezer, near Beit Shemesh. The vandals damaged the headstone with graffiti, tore down and broke Israeli flags, and stole memorial items left by friends. The fallen soldier’s father, Itai Hoffman, said the sight “broke our hearts”: the front of the grave was covered in children’s scribbles, the flags were destroyed, and a pen was stuck into a memorial candle. He called on society to break the cycle of violence and to trust the police with the case. Nir Hoffman, 20, served as a medic in the reconnaissance battalion of the Nahal Brigade and died in a car accident in December 2025. He dreamed of becoming a doctor and was known for his sensitivity and wisdom. Police have launched an investigation; further details have not been disclosed.
