Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center has become the first medical center worldwide to recruit patients for a clinical trial of SIL204, an experimental treatment for pancreatic cancer developed by Israeli biotechnology company Silexion Therapeutics. The treatment uses small interfering RNA (siRNA) molecules to silence mutated KRAS genes, which are found in approximately 90% of pancreatic cancer patients and drive tumor growth. The initial phase will enroll about 18 patients, focusing on safety, and will combine direct intratumoral injection of SIL204 with standard systemic therapy. The study is expected to expand to additional centers in Israel, Germany, and other countries, with total enrollment potentially reaching 166 patients. Prof. Ravit Geva, director of the Oncology Institute at the hospital, will lead the study. Pancreatic cancer remains among the most lethal cancers, often diagnosed at advanced stages. The treatment is investigational, and its safety and efficacy have yet to be established.
