Israeli pre-election polls will change significantly - assessment

Israel's Central Elections Committee has mandated that from tomorrow, media and research organizations must provide a full set of raw materials for pre-election polls. The initiative aims to increase transparency and reduce the risk of public opinion manipulation. Israel's Central Elections Committee has decided to significantly change the concept of pre-election polls. Acting Director General of the CEC, attorney Dean Livne, sent an official notice to media and research organizations. Starting tomorrow, all entities publishing sociological survey data must provide the CEC with a full set of raw materials and source data. According to the initiative's authors, the new rules should make the election process more transparent and reduce the risk of public opinion manipulation. As Livne noted, publishing complete source data will allow independent verification of poll results and help prevent the spread of distorted or unreliable information. The CEC believes that incomplete or unverified data can mislead voters, especially those who have not yet made up their minds. The new requirements are part of CEC measures aimed at increasing transparency and fairness of the election campaign. Now, each data publication must be accompanied by a detailed report including not only final figures but also the entire array of information used in conducting the polls. Additionally, the CEC intends to monitor compliance of published materials with established reliability requirements. Compliance with the new rules will be mandatory for all media and organizations engaged in sociological research in Israel.
