The statement added that Palestinians have the right to defend themselves, but the occupation army chose to open fire on residents instead of arresting the attacking settlers or providing protection for the village. The organization considered that what happened is 'not an individual mistake, but a policy of occupation,' noting that the escalation of settler attacks coincides with calls from ministers in the occupation government to completely destroy Palestinian villages, under the protection provided by the army to settlers. The organization affirmed that its refusal of military service is based on rejecting participation in 'defending violent settlers and an apartheid system.'
