An Israeli lawyer was arrested on Tuesday at Ben-Gurion Airport on suspicion of smuggling drugs into Israel, according to a police statement issued Wednesday. The drugs arrived in a cargo shipment, not in luggage, and were processed through customs. The package came from England and was sent via Turkey. During inspection, investigators discovered GHB, also known as liquid ecstasy, disguised in bottles labeled as false eyelash removal solution. Police followed the package to its intended recipient, the lawyer, a Tel Aviv resident, and arrested him as the package was delivered. They seized additional drugs from his home, including more GHB, heroin, ecstasy, and other substances, plus an undisclosed amount of foreign currency. On Wednesday, courts extended his detention until August 16. Separately, Tel Aviv police conducted large-scale operations on Tuesday night, seizing hundreds of thousands of shekels in cash and various drugs. In one raid, they seized cannabis, cocaine, MDMA, and equipment for measuring and packaging drugs, along with NIS 33,450 in cash. In another, they seized more than $228,000 and NIS 31,000. Officers also issued 25 traffic tickets for life-threatening offenses and confiscated 20 vehicles. A man riding a scooter on the sidewalk was arrested after being found to be a Palestinian resident of the West Bank residing illegally in Israel.
