The prestigious Shanghai Ranking, which ranks about 2,500 universities worldwide each year, included this year two Israeli institutions in the list of the 100 best universities in the world. The Weizmann Institute was ranked 71st, similar to last year, and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem was ranked 89th, after a drop of one place compared to the previous year. The ranking is based on indicators such as the number of Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals among alumni and faculty, highly cited researchers, and publications in leading scientific journals. Alongside the Israeli achievement, there was disappointment: the Technion, which entered the ranking last year at 97th place, failed to make the ranking this year, but received an honorable mention. At the top of the list, American and British universities maintain their positions, with Harvard University in first place with a perfect score, followed by Stanford, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, and the University of California, Berkeley.
