Israeli ministers, during a meeting of the security cabinet, called for resuming the genocide in the Gaza Strip and rejecting the 'roadmap' for implementing the second phase of US President Donald Trump's ceasefire plan. The cabinet, chaired by occupation Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, held a session Thursday evening to discuss the roadmap, which the 'Peace Council' chaired by Trump announced last Friday that Hamas had approved, while Israel is still considering its final position. According to the Hebrew newspaper Israel Hayom, ministers Ze'ev Elkin, Bezalel Smotrich, Orit Strock, and Avi Dichter called for resuming the genocide against Gaza and rejecting the transition to the second phase of the plan. Elkin said that Israel's abstention from offensive operations for two weeks effectively means it 'accepted the plan,' calling for an official declaration rejecting the roadmap's clauses. Smotrich, Strock, and Dichter also demanded Netanyahu issue an official statement affirming Israel's opposition to implementing the second phase. The newspaper quoted Smotrich telling Netanyahu: 'You are adept at maneuvering, but after an official document is issued, we must delegitimize it; we cannot continue maneuvering,' adding: 'Hamas must not remain; it must be wiped out.' Agriculture Minister Avi Dichter said the goal of 'destroying Hamas' cannot be abandoned. According to the newspaper, Shin Bet chief David Zini claimed during the meeting that Hamas's approval of the agreement constitutes a 'deception operation' and a 'strategic ambush,' alleging its goal is to buy time and ensure military operations in Gaza are not resumed before the Israeli elections scheduled for October 27. National Security Council head Shmuel Ben Ezra informed ministers that Israel had already sent amendments to the document to the United States during a meeting between the two sides. Ben Ezra noted that Israel faces significant pressure 'to enter the 14-day period of halting operations, return to the yellow line, and avoid assassinations.' The newspaper did not mention the outcome of the cabinet meeting, and no official statement was issued. Trump announced on July 30 that an understanding had been reached on implementing the next phase of the ceasefire agreement, and the Peace Council published the text of the roadmap for the second phase. The roadmap stipulates Israel halting its military operations, followed by the entry of the National Committee for Managing the Gaza Strip and the International Stabilization Force, and a gradual process of dismantling and storing heavy weapons and dismantling tunnels, alongside a phased Israeli withdrawal from the Strip. It also stipulates placing weapons under the responsibility of the Palestinian committee, not handing them over to Israel or any other party outside the Palestinian side.
