Israel launches project to treat severely wounded Ukrainians

A humanitarian project to treat Ukrainians with severe eye and facial injuries has been launched in Israel. The Bnei Zion Medical Center in Haifa has admitted the first seven patients. At the same time, Israeli ophthalmic surgeons are training doctors from Lviv to establish a specialized center in Lviv.

An international humanitarian project to treat severely wounded Ukrainians injured in combat has been launched in Israel. The Bnei Zion Medical Center in Haifa has admitted the first group of seven patients with severe orbital, eyelid, and total eye loss injuries. They will undergo a course of reconstructive surgery and rehabilitation. The project is implemented jointly with the Israeli humanitarian organization Lev Echad. The key goal is not only to provide one-time assistance but also to create an autonomous ophthalmological system in Ukraine. Along with the patients, three Ukrainian ophthalmologists and a nurse from Lviv arrived in Haifa for training in reconstructive surgery. After training, the Lviv team will lead the first specialized center for treatment and rehabilitation of patients with severe ophthalmic injuries, which will be opened in Lviv. The cooperation between Bnei Zion and Lev Echad with Ukrainian colleagues has lasted over two years, including outreach surgeries and consultations.
