Israel is about to amaze Europe: the space weapon that will turn it into a superpower

Israel seeks to position itself as a key partner for Europe in space and defense, leveraging its operational experience in early warning systems, satellites, and artificial intelligence. Israeli Space Agency Director Avi Maman told POLITICO that the militarization of space is an ongoing process, and that Israel sees growing interest from its allies in dual-use technologies—systems that can be used for both civilian and security needs. Maman emphasized that satellite observation capabilities, data processing, and artificial intelligence can also be used to address fires, floods, and droughts. Alongside defense cooperation, the European Union maintains a tense political relationship with Israel. In July 2025, the Commission proposed suspending part of Israel's participation in the Horizon Europe program, and in September of that year, it proposed imposing sanctions on Israeli ministers defined as "extremists" and on violent settlers. Greece recently signed a deal worth about 3 billion euros with Israel to establish a multi-layered air defense system. The war in Ukraine and the Russian threat are pushing Europe to accelerate its defense capabilities, and Israeli systems once considered too sensitive are becoming a sought-after asset.
