Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi agreed during the night (between Saturday and Sunday) to a compromise proposal formulated by Qatari mediators and the US regarding an arrangement for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, according to two diplomats who spoke to N12. His positive response was one of the reasons President Trump agreed to cancel the strike on Iran. According to the proposal, the entry of vessels into the Gulf through the Strait of Hormuz would be from the Iranian maritime space, while the exit from the Gulf would be from the Omani maritime space. Oman agreed to the proposal but asked for clarifications as to whether Araghchi's agreement also represents the position of the Revolutionary Guards. The Qatari mediators continue talks with Iran to ensure that the Revolutionary Guards support the understandings. Yesterday, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman spoke with Trump and expressed concern about his plan for a large-scale attack on Iran. Trump announced at night the cancellation of the significant strikes planned across Iran, giving another chance to diplomacy. According to his statement, an agreement was reached on steps to reduce tensions, including the immediate, full, and complete opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and moves to end the nuclear threat. He stressed that the move is subject to reaching a final agreement quickly, and that the US and Israel are jointly committed to the political process.
