Ahoo Daryaei, a 32-year-old Iranian student and mother of two, became a symbol of protest in November 2024 when she stripped at Azad University in Tehran after her hijab fell and she was violently dragged by the morality police. According to a Daily Mail report, she was choked with her head between a policewoman's knees, forcibly hospitalized for 18 days, and still requires monthly injections of flupentixol, an antipsychotic drug. A friend, speaking anonymously, said the authorities threatened her family, including her children, and that she lives under surveillance. Doctors warned her that if she stops the injections, she will be arrested and returned to a psychiatric hospital. Daryaei claims she does not suffer from mental issues and that this is an attempt to cover up the incident. The case occurred about a year and a half after the suppression of the hijab protests following the death of Mahsa Amini in 2022.
