Iran, Qatar rabbis meet Emir in rare palace visit
A delegation from the Alliance of Rabbis in Islamic States, including Iranian Chief Rabbi Yehuda Gerami and Qatari Chief Rabbi Eliyahu Chitrik, met with Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani at the Lusail Palace in Doha to offer condolences on the death of his father, former Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. The meeting was also attended by the Prime Minister and other officials.
A rare diplomatic meeting took place at the Lusail Palace in Doha on Monday, where a delegation from the Alliance of Rabbis in Islamic States met with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. The delegation, led by Rabbi Mendy Chitrik, Chairman of the alliance and Chief Ashkenazi Rabbi of Istanbul, included his son, Qatari Chief Rabbi Eliyahu Chitrik, and Iranian Chief Rabbi Yehuda Gerami. They conveyed condolences to the Emir on the passing of his father, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. The Emir expressed his thanks and appreciation for the sentiments. The meeting was also attended by Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani and Amiri Diwan Chief Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Khulaifi. The Alliance stated that its delegation visited to offer condolences to the Emir, the ruling family, and the people of Qatar, and that it serves Jewish communities across the Muslim world. Following the meeting, Rabbi Mendy Chitrik thanked the Emir for his warm reception and support for Jewish life in Qatar.
