Trump has chosen economic warfare as the most effective way, with the stated goal of bringing the regime to its knees until it agrees to American terms to end the war. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent explicitly stated that the strategic goal is to bring the regime to a critical weakness that could lead to its downfall. The sanctions will include tightening the naval blockade to the maximum level, long-term planning by the US Navy for full control of the Strait of Hormuz, and sanctions on companies and countries trading with Iran. Meanwhile, the US Treasury is expanding operations to seize Iranian financial assets, including in the crypto space, where the Revolutionary Guards have transferred a significant portion of their assets. Iran's economy is already on the brink of the abyss: a worsening fuel crisis, an allocation of only 60 liters per month, an average salary of about $100 for a new worker, and an average family income reaching half the cost of living. Trade with China, its largest trading partner, fell by 75% in the first four months of the war. The United Arab Emirates announced a complete cessation of trade with Iran, and trade with Turkey and India also dropped sharply.
