Iran confirmed today (Sunday) that exchanges of messages between it and the United States continue through mediators, and emphasized that it continues to support diplomatic solutions despite the military tensions between the countries. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said that communication channels between Tehran and Washington remain open and that mediators continue their efforts. Meanwhile, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh clarified that Iran is "committed to genuine diplomacy and fair dialogue," but stressed that Tehran will not allow the United States to impose "hegemony" on shipping routes in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz. His remarks were made at the ASEAN foreign ministers' meeting, where he accused the US of "an attack on international law, diplomacy, and the basic principles of the UN Charter."
