Iran denies involvement in Yemen and attack on Saudi oil pipeline: 'The Houthis decide for themselves'

Baqaei claimed that Iran does not interfere in Houthi decisions, and that the allegations are part of a "media and psychological war" by the US. He also dismissed reports of unusual activity at the Natanz nuclear site.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei today (Monday) strongly denied US allegations that Tehran was involved in the attack on the Saudi oil pipeline. In a press conference, Baqaei called the allegations "false news and false claims" and said that Iran does not interfere in Houthi activities in Yemen. According to him, "the Yemenis make their own decisions" and the Ansar Allah organization (the Houthis) is an "independent Yemeni factor." Baqaei linked the campaign in Yemen to the naval blockade on Iran, arguing that it is impossible to impose a naval blockade on a country and at the same time expect it to maintain shipping lanes. He also dismissed reports of unusual activity at the underground site "Mount Makosh" near the Natanz nuclear facility, claiming it is a "media and psychological war" by the US. Baqaei added that the International Atomic Energy Agency has never determined that Iran violated its commitments.
