Iran considers striking energy infrastructure linked to Europe in the Gulf

Iran is examining a response to the Ukrainian attack on its ship in the Caspian Sea, and as part of it, considers striking energy infrastructure with European ties in the Gulf, including oil and gas pipelines, LNG facilities, and green hydrogen projects.

According to a first report on Channel 14, Iran has been considering several options for a response in recent days following the Ukrainian attack on an Iranian ship in the Caspian Sea. Tehran views Ukraine as a proxy for European countries, and therefore is considering ways to retaliate that would harm European interests. Among the targets under consideration: oil and gas pipelines used to supply energy to Europe, oil and gas fields, LNG facilities with European ties, and green hydrogen production projects in Oman that rely on European funding and investments. The Iranian leadership feels a deep sense of humiliation after a country they did not expect to act against them chose to carry out a direct attack.
