Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal Affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, presented a firm stance last night (Tuesday): the strait has become a defensive asset ensuring Iran's security, and it demands full control over the entry route to the Persian Gulf and part of the exit route. According to him, Iran does not recognize Oman's southern route and does not hide its desire to generate revenue from the passage. He threatened that any European warship approaching the strait would be considered a legitimate target. Meanwhile, the US is furious over the demands, calling them unreasonable. Britain and France have refused to join a joint naval force until a stable ceasefire agreement is reached. The Revolutionary Guards attacked three tankers attempting to cross the strait, but Western sources have not confirmed this.
