The Navy of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) over the past 24 hours prevented six commercial vessels from passing through the Strait of Hormuz, firing warning shots. According to Iranian state broadcasting, the ships deviated from the route unilaterally approved by Iranian authorities and attempted to pass through the strategic waterway without permission. Iranian sources claim that US forces in the region tried to adjust the course of the detained ships and ensure their passage, but after Iran's warning shots, the vessels turned back. The previous day, the IRGC similarly stopped four more ships, bringing the total number of blocked vessels over two days to ten. Tehran has not yet disclosed the ownership, flags, or cargo of the intercepted ships. The Strait of Hormuz remains a major point of tension between Washington and Tehran: the US insists on the principle of free international navigation, while Iran has effectively imposed a regime of strict control. Such actions by Iranian forces threaten another spike in oil prices and increased maritime insurance costs.
