The correspondent of the Lebanese channel Al-Mayadeen reported today (Sunday) from the Strait of Hormuz that, in accordance with the talks between Iran and the Sultanate of Oman, the southern route in the area will be cancelled. It was also reported that all oil tankers will be required to coordinate with the navy of the Revolutionary Guards. Meanwhile, a source told the Lebanese newspaper Nidaa al-Watan that Hezbollah is seeking an opportunity to thwart the direct negotiations between Israel and Lebanon. The source stressed that the organization has begun to increase the pace of its military activity, in anticipation of further escalation with a green light from Iran. He further added that the escalation in southern Lebanon opens the arena to dangerous possibilities, foremost among them the renewal of war and the collapse of the negotiations under Washington's auspices, after it had already progressed a significant way. A US State Department spokesperson told Al Jazeera last night that Hezbollah is the main obstacle to Lebanon's economic recovery, and that the organization bears sole responsibility for the Israeli presence in the country's territory. According to him, the pilot areas are the only practical path to achieving peace, and he expects the Lebanese army to complete its clearing operations in these areas.
