"In terms of loitering, it has virtually no limit": A new boost for the Air Force
The second refueling aircraft of the "Gideon" model landed at Nevatim Airbase and will join the strategic array of the Israeli Air Force. The aircraft, based on the Boeing 767, carries a large amount of fuel and is capable of refueling and receiving fuel in the air, granting it an almost unlimited loitering capability. An Air Force source stated that fresh operational lessons from distant theaters, including Iran, have been implemented.
The second refueling aircraft of the "Gideon" model landed at Nevatim Airbase and will join the strategic array of the Israeli Air Force. The aircraft, based on the Boeing 767, carries an especially large amount of fuel, as fuel tanks are installed in the space designated for cargo hold in a passenger aircraft. Its main advantage, as explained by an Air Force source, is its ability to refuel and receive fuel in the air, granting it an almost unlimited loitering capability. The refueling system was developed by Boeing together with the US military and enables a high and safe refueling rate. The source noted that the aircraft crew consists of 4-5 people: two pilots, a navigator, and a refueling operator. The operational lessons are applied from US military activity in various theaters, including fresh lessons from the war against Iran. The aircraft is capable of performing additional missions such as medical evacuation, transporting passengers, and carrying cargo, and in the future, additional dedicated systems are expected to be installed on it.
