After the Revolutionary Guards responded for the first time to the operation, additional sources in Iran are expressing their thoughts on the fall of the ridge and pointing fingers at those they deem responsible. According to a report by Iran International, Hezbollah's defeat at Ali Taher has quickly become an internal political weapon in Iran. The sources accused the negotiators of the memorandum of understanding with the US, signed in June in Pakistan, of failing to protect Hezbollah's Lebanese front. According to them, the clauses in the agreement harmed Iran's ability to respond on the Lebanese front, without clarifying which clauses they meant. This is despite the memorandum of understanding stipulating on paper that attacks between the sides would cease in all arenas – including Lebanon. Among the agreement's clauses are demands such as opening the Strait of Hormuz to commercial shipping, lifting the US naval blockade on Iranian ports, and freezing new US sanctions. About three months after the signing, none of the clauses have stood the test of time.
