Impersonated dozens of victims using AI and issued credit cards in their names

An indictment was filed against a 20-year-old who, according to police, used AI to animate photos from ID documents, created fake verification videos, and issued dozens of credit cards in victims' names. He made transactions worth tens of thousands of shekels, rented vehicles abroad, and attempted to obtain loans estimated at hundreds of thousands of shekels. The suspect, whose name has not been released, gained access to a database containing photos of ID documents of dozens of citizens and used them to create videos in which the ID holder appears to give the statements required for issuing a credit card remotely. The cards were linked to bank accounts of charities and public entities that were unaware of their use. Police believe the suspect used some of the cards for his own needs and may have sold others. He also issued more than ten phone lines, and in one case ported a victim's phone number. The suspect did not cooperate with the investigation, was held in custody for nearly a month, and on July 16 an indictment was filed against him. Police warn the public about online fraud and emphasize the need not to click on suspicious links.
