IDF Arabic spokesperson Captain Ella Waweya issued a rare warning today to residents of the Gaza Strip about an economic scam by Hamas. According to her, Hamas pays residents with old-series banknotes that are about to lose their value soon, and she warned them not to agree to accept payments in these notes. The statement noted that the Bank of Israel, responsible for issuing banknotes, recommends exchanging old notes for new ones, and that most old notes have already been exchanged. It was also claimed that Hamas leaders keep the new notes for themselves, while field operatives and residents of the Strip bear the losses. Captain Waweya directly addressed the residents: "Do not agree to receive your salaries or make payments in old notes. Do not allow Hamas's terrorist leadership to impose the consequences of its losses on you."
