IDF ready to respond to Hezbollah drone attack
IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir hinted at the possibility of a swift return to active combat in Lebanon after a Hezbollah kamikaze drone attack violated the ceasefire. Zamir called for an increase in troop numbers. The decision rests with Prime Minister Netanyahu.
IDF Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir visited southern Lebanon on Wednesday, July 29, and hinted at the possibility of a swift return to active combat after a Hezbollah kamikaze drone attack damaged IDF engineering equipment on the night of July 29. This constituted a gross violation of the ceasefire conditions in Lebanon. The military notes tunnels on the Ali Taher ridge as a possible target and awaits approval from the political leadership, primarily Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Zamir emphasized readiness for any change in the situation and called for an increase in troop numbers, noting that the IDF's tasks are multiplying and expanding. He also expressed gratitude to the soldiers of the Kfir Brigade, redeployed from Gaza to Lebanon. The drone attack was the first instance in several weeks of Hezbollah using an attack drone against Israeli forces.
