The IDF's plan to take over a Palestinian home in the village of Turmus Ayya, near Ramallah, was canceled this evening (Tuesday) following anger from the United States Embassy in Israel. The forces entered the structure in the village with the aim of turning it into an IDF forward outpost, as part of a procedure known as "Widow's Straw Procedure," and using it for preparations for arrests and raids. The structure turned out to belong to a Palestinian doctor with American citizenship, and an American flag was displayed on its front. Despite this, the forces entered, ordered the family members to evacuate, and turned the place into an IDF outpost. The embassy was angered by the takeover of an American citizen's home and exerted heavy pressure on Israeli security officials. Shortly afterward, the soldiers received orders to evacuate immediately. The US Embassy stated: "The State Department attaches the highest importance to ensuring the safety of its citizens residing outside the United States."
