"I went from a system manager to the mother of a wounded soldier": Wolfson CEO reveals her personal story
Prof. Anat Engel, CEO of Wolfson Medical Center, revealed for the first time at the Ministry of Health conference her personal story as the mother of a soldier critically wounded in the Iron Swords War. Her son, Yoav Engel, an armored corps fighter and hero of Israel, was wounded in the battles in Shuja'iyya and is now in rehabilitation. Engel described her transition from a healthcare system manager to a wounded soldier's mother, and the trust in the system during the hardest moments.
Prof. Anat Engel, CEO of Wolfson Medical Center, revealed publicly for the first time at the Ministry of Health conference marking 30 years of the National Health Insurance Law, her personal story as the mother of a soldier critically wounded in the Iron Swords War. Her son, Yoav Engel, an armored corps fighter and hero of Israel, was wounded in the battles in Shuja'iyya. Engel described the dramatic change she underwent: "I went from a person managing an excellent system that treats the wounded, to the mother of a wounded soldier." She emphasized the trust in the healthcare system during the hardest moments. Yoav Engel, who is currently in rehabilitation and studying medicine, participated in the conversation alongside his mother and Dr. Yoav Bichovsky, an intensive care doctor who was seriously wounded in the war and returned to his work. Yoav said that the experience as a patient led him to choose medical studies, out of a desire to give others the care he received.
