Horror Story in New York: Gunman with Shotgun, Massive Explosion, and Two Bodies in Queens

A violent incident in Queens, New York: Police were called to a home following reports of gunfire, encountered an explosion and a gunman in body armor, shot and seriously wounded him. Inside the building, two women were found lifeless.

A violent and unusual incident occurred over the weekend in the Queens borough of New York, when police forces arriving at the scene following a report of gunfire had to contend with a massive explosion, a gunman in body armor who refused to lower his weapon, and two bodies discovered at the crime scene. According to a report by the New York Post, the drama began on Saturday around 12:00 PM, when the New York Police Department was called to a home in the Far Rockaway neighborhood. The call to 911 came from a frightened woman who reported gunshots inside her home. When officers arrived at the scene, the woman was waiting outside the building. She told them that after hearing the gunshots, she entered one of the rooms and identified a body lying on the bed. The woman immediately fled the scene and warned the forces that her husband possessed a firearm. Around 12:15 PM, the NYPD's Emergency Service Unit was called to the scene. However, just as the forces were preparing for a forceful breach into the home, a sudden 'intense fire explosion originating from inside the building' occurred, according to McIntosh. Seconds later, the suspect emerged from the burning building wearing body armor, equipped with additional ammunition and holding a shotgun. Officers ordered Thomas repeatedly to raise his hands and discard the weapon, but he refused to comply. In response, several officers opened fire and neutralized him. He was taken to Jamaica Hospital in serious but stable condition, where he underwent a series of surgeries. During searches conducted by officers inside the burning building, two bodies with gunshot wounds were discovered. Sources told the New York Post that the deceased are likely the shooter's mother-in-law and sister-in-law. Police reported that Keegan Thomas has no criminal record or prior history of interventions by authorities on mental health grounds.
