Horror in hospital: girl in intensive care after rhinoplasty

An 18-year-old patient was admitted to intensive care after cosmetic nose surgery at the private TLV Medical hospital in Tel Aviv. The incident occurred on Friday, August 7. The girl, who had been injured about two years ago in a car accident on Highway 35, came for rhinoplasty. During the operation, the surgeon noticed a complication, and the procedure was stopped. The patient was intubated, put into medically induced sleep, and connected to a ventilator, then accompanied by an anesthesiologist to Ichilov Hospital. It turned out that she suffered severe burns to her nose and airways, presumably from inhaling acid. Police are investigating suspected negligence. According to one version, the nurse mistakenly inserted tampons soaked with the wrong substance, possibly trichloroacetic acid (TCA). At Ichilov, her condition was stabilized, but due to tracheal damage, another operation involving about ten doctors was required on Saturday, August 8. The girl remains under anesthesia in the intensive care unit. The hospital admitted the nurse's error, said it reported to the Ministry of Health, but the Ministry denies receiving the report.
