Hit-and-run accident: Caused a woman's death in a crash - and fled and hid his vehicle

The State Prosecutor's Office has filed an indictment against Ayad Abu Abdon, a 39-year-old resident of Rahat, for causing a fatal traffic accident near the community of Tsofar, fleeing the scene, and hiding his vehicle. According to the indictment, Abu Abdon overtook an agricultural vehicle at an intersection while crossing a solid line, collided with it, and caused the death of passenger Patarat Nontapha.

The State Prosecutor's Office today (Thursday) filed an indictment at the Be'er Sheva District Court against Ayad Abu Abdon, 39, from Rahat, for a fatal hit-and-run accident that occurred on August 29 near the community of Tsofar. According to the indictment, Abu Abdon was driving a Toyota Jeep on Route 2310, overtook an agricultural vehicle at the intersection while crossing a solid line, and collided with it. The passenger in the agricultural vehicle, Patarat Nontapha, born in 1985, was thrown from the vehicle, struck her head on a concrete wall, and died from her injuries. After the accident, Abu Abdon got out of his vehicle, noticed the driver of the agricultural vehicle searching for the deceased, but fled. He collected the bumper that had detached from his vehicle, drove about 6 kilometers, and hid the vehicle among greenhouses and tall vegetation near the community of Amioz. Citizens who arrived at the scene called emergency services, and the deceased was evacuated to Soroka Hospital while resuscitation efforts were performed, where her death was determined. Abu Abdon was arrested about 7 hours later at Soroka Hospital. The indictment alleges that he knew he had hit a vehicle and that the deceased was injured, but did not call for help. He is charged with offenses of leaving the scene after causing injury, causing death by negligence, and attempting to obstruct legal proceedings. A request for his detention until the end of proceedings was also filed.
