The hearing was held before a panel of nine justices, after the amendment to the law was approved in the Knesset by the coalition in the middle of the month. The law, defined as a temporary order, establishes a special arrangement to freeze the arrest of yeshiva students whose Torah study is their profession until November, i.e., until after the elections. Shortly after its approval, petitions were filed by the Movement for Quality Government, the Yesh Atid and Yisrael Beiteinu parties, and the organizations "Israel Hofshit" and "Brothers in Arms." The petitioners argued that the purpose of the amendment is improper and that its provisions do not meet the conditions of the limitation clause in Basic Law: Human Dignity and Liberty, due to their violation of the constitutional right to equality. Additionally, it was argued that the amendment should be annulled due to the severe flaws in the legislative process. The justices noted that the ruling will be given soon.
