The Hezbollah group has found a way to attack IDF forces in Lebanon using new drones. A drone attack in southern Lebanon, in which an officer and two soldiers of the IDF engineering special forces were seriously wounded, has again intensified the discussion about ways to counter FPV drones. After the ceasefire came into effect in mid-April, FPV drones with remote control via fiber-optic cable became the group's primary means of attack. FPV drones are compact devices with cameras that allow the operator to control them in real time and accurately hit targets, including moving objects. According to the Meir Amit Center, they can carry up to 3 kg of payload, operate at a distance of several dozen kilometers, and cost about $300-400. According to data from Lebanon, the group has also organized training for operators for the mass use of such drones. An additional threat is their small size, which makes them difficult to detect by IDF radar. Israeli military structures have been looking for effective ways to counter drones for several months. The IDF, the Ministry of Defense, and defense companies have reviewed more than 100 technological solutions, some of which are currently being tested. In southern Lebanon, the Iron Dome system has been deployed with a radar and an interceptor drone capable of neutralizing targets with a net. Tests are ongoing, although earlier the IDF assessed the system's effectiveness as insufficient. In parallel, drone detection and early warning systems for ground units are being tested.
