Heatwave peaks: Health Ministry issues public warning

The Health Ministry has issued a warning ahead of a severe heatwave expected to peak from Friday to Sunday. Guidelines include avoiding sun exposure, drinking plenty of water, and staying in air-conditioned places. Special emphasis is placed on at-risk populations: the elderly, infants, pregnant women, and those with chronic illnesses.

The Health Ministry issued a special warning today (Thursday) ahead of a severe heatwave expected to affect most parts of the country and peak from tomorrow, Friday (July 31), through Sunday (August 2). Guidelines include avoiding prolonged sun exposure, drinking plenty of water even without feeling thirsty, staying in air-conditioned places, wearing a wide-brimmed hat, and applying sunscreen. At-risk populations include the elderly, infants and toddlers up to age four, pregnant women, people with heart or vascular disease, those with obesity or chronic illnesses, and patients taking certain medications. It is also recommended to avoid outdoor trips in the coming days and not to leave children or animals in a vehicle unattended. Signs of heatstroke requiring immediate medical attention include high body temperature, red and hot skin, severe headache, dizziness, nausea, confusion, or loss of consciousness.
