Health Ministry in Unusual Call to Public: Come Donate Blood, Especially Those with Type O
The Ministry of Health and Magen David Adom are calling on the public to donate blood due to a significant drop in blood supply, with an emphasis on type O. Health Ministry Director General Moshe Bar Siman Tov stated that the supply must be regularly reinforced and urged those who donated more than three months ago to donate again. Donations are needed for surgeries, births, treatments, and response to casualties and security needs.
The Ministry of Health and Magen David Adom issued an unusual call this morning (Monday) to the public to come and donate blood, against the backdrop of a significant decline in the national blood supply, especially in type O units. The call was directed at the general public, with an emphasis on those with type O blood. Health Ministry Director General Moshe Bar Siman Tov said that the blood supply must be regularly reinforced and called on the public to donate, especially those who donated more than three months ago. He stressed that donating blood is a simple act that saves lives and is part of mutual responsibility in routine and emergency. Blood units are needed daily for the ongoing activity of the health system, including surgeries, births, medical treatments, and response to casualties, as well as for the needs of the security system and soldiers wounded on the battlefield. In the current period, the supply needs to be reinforced to ensure continuous availability for any medical need.
