Head-to-head battle between Likud senior officials: "After false briefings - now it's in your name"

A sharp public confrontation erupted between Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi and Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana within Likud, following the High Court of Justice ruling that invalidated the closure of Galei Tzahal. Karhi attacked Ohana for failing to bring to a vote a resolution asserting that Knesset laws remain valid despite the High Court ruling. Ohana responded that Karhi has been engaging in anonymous and false briefings, and that the request is procedurally invalid.

A sharp public confrontation erupted between two senior Likud officials: Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi and Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana. The background to the confrontation is the High Court of Justice ruling that unanimously invalidated the government's decision to close Galei Tzahal. Karhi attacked Ohana for not responding to the demand of 25 Knesset members to bring to a vote a resolution stating that Knesset laws are valid and binding despite the High Court ruling. Ohana responded sharply, writing that after a long period of anonymous and false briefings, at least this time Karhi did so in his own name. Ohana explained that the request is procedurally invalid, as ministers cannot submit motions to the agenda. He called for unity within Likud ahead of the general elections, and noted that he had been fighting the judicial system before Karhi. The confrontation reflects the internal tensions within Likud following the primaries, in which Karhi reached 13th place and Ohana second place.
