ynet has learned that Deputy Commissioner Lior Avudraham, head of the police spokesperson unit, who was questioned as part of the affair involving associates of Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, is expected to end his tenure and move to another senior police role. In parallel, advanced talks are underway with former police spokesperson Eli Levi, aiming for his return to the position of head of the spokesperson unit. Avudraham is the key witness against Prison Service Commissioner Kobi Yaakovi in the affair, and he testified to the Police Internal Investigations Department (Mahash) that Yaakovi updated Deputy Commissioner Avishai Mualem about an ongoing investigation against him. Since then, Yaakovi has accused Avudraham of conducting an improper relationship with a Mahash investigator, and both have denied the claims. Avudraham served as an assistant to the police commissioner at the time of his testimony, and during his questioning he noted that he approached the head of Mahash, attorney Keren Bar Menachem, to obtain information about officer disqualifications. The affair is causing upheaval in the police spokesperson unit, and the expected appointment of Eli Levi may change the face of the system.
