A fire broke out in an apartment on the third floor of a building in Eilat, with a person inside in life-threatening danger. Police Sergeant Major Yaakov Dorni and other officers broke through the locked steel door using a breaching kit and a heavy hammer, after about five to seven minutes. Dorni, a trained medic, carried the injured person on his shoulders down three floors and handed him to a medical team waiting with a stretcher. According to him, "Luckily we got him down quickly" because he was in real mortal danger. His wife Shani said he is "brave. Very brave" and that he wore "three hats: of a police officer, a firefighter, and a medical person." Dorni emphasized that the rescue is part of the essence of police work: "to engage when needed and save lives." After the rescue, firefighters released smoke and brought the flames under control, and fire investigators began examining the circumstances of the ignition.
