According to the woman's testimony, her husband suggested they go shopping, a step she found unusual, and when they reached the port area he suddenly accelerated, hit a pole and continued into the water. The 44-year-old woman, who cannot swim, was trapped in the sinking vehicle and managed to escape through the rear window with the help of two passersby who jumped into the water with a rope. She was taken to the hospital in a distressed condition but without injuries. The husband fled the scene and was located hours later in a wooded area near his home in San Giovanni in Marignano. A day earlier, police were called following a quarrel at the family home, and the man was arrested on suspicion of assaulting police officers and causing damage to a patrol car. Investigators are examining a suspicion that he blamed his wife for his previous arrest. Before leaving with her, he also suggested their adult daughter join them, but she refused.
