The confirmation process of Blanche, the nominee for the position, has stalled in the Senate Judiciary Committee due to opposition from two Republican senators - John Cornyn of Texas and Thom Tillis of North Carolina. The two condition their support on receiving a written commitment from the White House to permanently shelve the fund, and on limiting another clause in the settlement that grants Trump and his family immunity from future tax audits. In response to the delay, Trump posted on social media, clarifying that if the Senate does not approve Blanche, he will keep him as acting Attorney General and push for legislation to establish the fund. He reinforced his remarks at a cabinet meeting at Camp David, where he expressed regret over the shelving of the fund and emphasized his desire to compensate his supporters who he claims suffered severe abuse. Senator Tillis responded to the post, saying Trump "clearly intends to revive the compensation fund for brats," and added that it is a pity that a worthy nominee like Blanche will not be approved just because of the president's "U-turn." The re-vote in the committee is scheduled for next Tuesday, in an attempt to reach agreements before the Senate's August recess.
